Record "Owner" field is used to assign records to specific team members to allow record ownership, track activities per team member, and overall team performance. Every record is required to have an owner and the field cannot be "cleared".
When a new record is created, the user creating the record is auto populated as the owner. When a user selects the "My Records" default filter group under Companies or Custom Objects, the records with that user as a Record Owner will populate.
Record Owner Use
Record Owner for records on a pipeline object are used to calculate projections in the Leaderboard Dashlet and allows viewing of team member's progress towards sales goals.
Hint: Contacts do not have an Owner field
